When we first moved to Portugal, we stayed here for a night using Marriott points, and it was one of the most memorable hotel experiences we’ve had! Nestled in the serene mountains of Sintra, it feels like a peaceful retreat, yet it’s only 11 minutes from Sintra and 17 minutes from Cascais—making it a great base for exploring both. The breakfast buffet was outstanding, with so many options that everyone in the family found something they loved. And the hotel playground? Hands down, the best we’ve ever experienced! If you’re looking for a 5-star hotel with family-friendly amenities, Penha Longa is a perfect choice, especially if you can book it during the off-season for a great deal.

On our trip, we stayed in Carvoeiro at Vale d'Oliveiras Quinta Resort & Spa, which was a beautiful resort with a great pool and a kids’ club—perfect for a relaxing family getaway. While it wasn’t on the water, it made up for it with its spacious accommodations and amenities. If you're looking for highly-rated family hotels (9+ rating) across the Algarve, here are some top picks in Faro, Albufeira, and Tavira that fit at least two adults and two children.

We stayed at Casa Areias Boutique Apartments in the summer of 2024, and we absolutely loved it! This hotel has everything families could ask for: a great swimming pool, a tennis court, and even ping pong and a pool table right by the pool. It was such a fun and relaxing environment, with plenty of activities to keep both kids and adults entertained. The breakfast was delicious, and the hosts were incredibly welcoming—making our stay feel extra special. If you're looking for a laid-back, family-friendly boutique stay in Albufeira, I highly recommend this one!
5) 3HB Clube Humbria
For families looking for an all-inclusive stay, 3HB Clube Humbria is a top-rated choice in Albufeira. These one-bedroom apartments offer extra space for families while still being part of a full-service resort experience. The best part? It’s just 550 feet from the beach, so you can easily go back and forth between the ocean and the hotel pool. Best Madeira Hotel in Portugal for Family

When we visited Madeira in February 2024, we stayed at the Enotel Lido All-Inclusive, and it was the perfect choice for our family! At €300 per night for all four of us, it was an amazing value, especially considering everything that was included. The all-inclusive package made the trip so much easier—we never had to worry about finding meals, and there were plenty of options for even the pickiest eaters (which, as a mom, I totally appreciate!).
The resort itself is beautiful, with stunning ocean views, multiple pools, and entertainment that kept both the kids and adults happy. Whether we were relaxing by the pool, enjoying a show in the evening, or taking in the breathtaking scenery, we felt like we were getting the full Madeira experience without the stress of planning every meal and activity.
