A Magical Visit to Sophie and Madigan’s Princess Playground in Frederick Maryland
I finally had the chance to visit Sophie and Madigan’s Playground in Frederick, Maryland, and it was every bit as beautiful and meaningful as I had heard. This fairy tale-themed playground was built in memory of two sisters, and you can feel the love and thoughtfulness poured into every detail. From whimsical towers to colorful play structures, it truly feels like you’ve stepped into a storybook.
It’s located just about three miles west of downtown Frederick, tucked away on Contender Way. The playground is open from sunrise to sunset, and there’s a huge parking lot, which made things super easy when we arrived. It was a gorgeous Sunday, so there were plenty of families enjoying the day, but the space is big enough that it didn’t feel overcrowded—we were able to spread out comfortably.
One thing to note: there are permanent restrooms, but they were locked during our visit, which was a bit of a surprise. Hopefully, that’s not always the case! There’s also very limited shade, aside from one small bench area with a canopy, so if you’re visiting on a sunny day, definitely bring hats or a pop-up tent if you plan to stay a while.
The best part? It’s accessible and inclusive, which I love. Playgrounds like this are rare, and it’s clear this one was created not just to honor Sophie and Madigan, but to bring joy to every child who visits.
