Lake Mercer VA is a lovely hidden gem in Lorton/Springfield/Fairfax Station. We started coming here this summer and have probably already visited a half dozen times! The tricky part is parking but now that we have a good spot, I can recommend this beautiful lake with 5.6 miles of paved trails.
There are about 6 parking spots on the side of the very busy Hooes Road which I do not recommend. It is too busy of a road with kids and then you have to take an uphill gravel path to the main paved trail around the lake. (Hard for my 4-year-old with his bike!) So the best place is to turn onto Triple Ridge Road and then turn right onto Jeffery Court. Its a cul-de-sac where you can park legally and then walk down the trail entrance. To go straight to the top of the dam, turn right at the first fork and follow the trail through the woods and up the hill (about 15 minutes) to this beautiful vista!
