The Yards Park - Washington DC

The Yards Park is one of my favorite places to take my kids in D.C.—it’s such a fun and beautiful spot for families any time of year. In the summer, the highlight is definitely the huge wading pool and fountain—honestly, it might be the coolest (literally and figuratively) water feature in the city. Kids can splash around while parents relax nearby with views of the river, shaded seating, and a clean, modern park vibe that’s hard to beat.

Parking can be tricky, especially on weekends. I circled the block hoping for a street spot, but eventually parked in The Yards Lot Q, right behind District Winery at 4th St. and Water St. SE. As a mom driving into D.C., I love knowing this lot is here—it's convenient and reasonably priced, especially for the city.

And of course, we had to stop for a treat at Ice Cream Jubilee—they’ve been voted best ice cream in D.C. for several years, and it’s easy to see why. I went for the Passion Fruit Guava (non-dairy!) and also loved the Cherries Jubilee. Such a perfect way to wrap up a warm day in the park!

Quick Tips for Visiting The Yards Park:

  • 💦 Summer Fun: Don’t miss the wading pool and splash fountains—bring towels and water shoes!
  • 🅿️ Parking: Street parking is limited. I recommend The Yards Lot Q (behind District Winery).
    • Weekdays: $2–$2.50/hour
    • Weekends: $1.50–$3/hour
  • 🍦 Sweet Treats: Head to Ice Cream Jubilee for award-winning scoops.
    • Favorite flavors: Passion Fruit Guava (non-dairy) & Cherries Jubilee
  • 🌿 Family-Friendly Vibe: Plenty of open space, river views, and spots to picnic or run around.
