Maryland Strawberry Picking Season is here! It's a wonderful activity for kids of all ages... and you get to taste the fruit of your labor. The strawberry picking season is usually May to early June but last year in 2024 we've had some April farms have pop-up stalls already and they might open fields a bit early. I will update this blog post as I hear from farms!

We've picked blackberries here and a beautiful working farm! They also have a milkshake trailer serving huge strawberry shortcakes, milkshakes and cones on the weekends!

Butler's Orchard in Germantown Maryland
2025 Operating Hours: Starting Saturday, May 3rd, the Farm Park will be open Tuesdays-Sundays 9am-6pm!
Admission is $5 per person (under 24 months free), and reservations recommended for earlier in the day for best Maryland strawberry picking.
Closest to the DC area in Germantown, Maryland. Their strawberry fields are very popular and I highly recommend making a reservation, especially on weekends! Their website is here to check.
Baugher’s Orchard

Located in Westminster, MD. They also have 2 markets with fresh fruit and vegetables and a family restaurant. Their website is here with all the info.
Gorman Farm in Highland Maryland
2025 Operating Hours: Fields are open!
12570 Scagsville Rd (Rt-216), Highland, MD 20777. Check out their website and Facebook for daily updates as they are giving the fields a break day. From the farm, "Our farm is not Certified Organic but everything we grow is done so with strictly organic practices. Hope to see you out for the picking."

Strawberry Picking Tips:
When visiting farms with kids, safety is just as important as fun—especially when it comes to ticks. Many pick-your-own farms have tall grass or wooded edges, so it’s smart to take precautions. I never leave home without five essentials for our farm adventures: bug spray (especially something with tick repellent), sunscreen, hats, a water bottle for each person, and wipes for quick cleanups. Long sleeves and pants can also help protect against bites, and I always do a quick tick check once we get back to the car. And use this cheap tick remover if I need.

While strawberry season usually wraps up in June, don’t pack away your picking baskets just yet—early July through August is prime time for blackberries!
