I'm going to share decorations we used and love for our baby's 100 Days Baby Celebration or Red Egg and Ginger Party. This celebration is called Bǎi Rì Yàn 百日宴 and is a significant milestone in Chinese families. It symbolizes the baby’s survival and good health, a joyous occasion that brings families and friends together to celebrate. Decorations play a vital role in setting the festive atmosphere, combining traditional elements and modern touches to honor this special day.

Background on the Red Egg and Ginger Party Decorations - Chinese 100 Day Baby
A Red Egg and Ginger Party is a traditional Chinese celebration held to mark a baby’s first milestone, often celebrated at 100 days. Historically, this event was a way to introduce the baby to extended family and friends while expressing gratitude for their health and survival.

Symbols of Red Egg and Ginger Parties to Incorporate in the Decorations
The red eggs symbolize fertility, birth, and good luck, while ginger represents protection, strength, and warmth, believed to safeguard the baby from illness. Traditionally, families would prepare elaborate meals, offer blessings, and exchange symbolic gifts. Today, many families combine these meaningful traditions with modern touches to create a joyous, culturally rich celebration.

Specific Decorations for Restaurant and Home Venues for a Red Egg Party
If you are having the party at a restaurant, I suggest asking the restaurant ahead of time what tablecloths and decorations they have. For one of our restaurant 100 day celebrations, it was already decorated in red for Chinese New Year but the other one that was at a different time of year did not have red tablecloths. Here are some decorations you can bring:
- Red Round Table Cloth - 70 Inch Red Round Table Cloth for 24 to 48 Inch Round Tables - Heavy Duty Washable Fabric
- A Gold Table Runner would be a great contrast to the red. Here is a solid gold one that says it doesn't wrinkle but I bet it has some! And then there's this beautiful gold runner that is kind of translucent.
- Plastic Red Eggs if the restaurant won't provide and you don't want to dye or could be used as a party favor!

Don't forget the actual Red Eggs and Ginger!
Our restaurant provided us with red eggs on the table so be sure to ask if they will provide them. Or you can dye some yourself! Here is a great Youtube video from Made with Lau about making your own. You can use food dye or natural dyes like the own below of beet powder.
You can also ask if the restaurant will include a bowl of ginger. If not, consider buying some candied ginger to have out for the guests.

Party Favors at a 100 Day Baby Party
For both of my babies’ 100-day celebrations, I debated whether or not to do party favors. In the end, I realized that while they’re a nice touch, they’re definitely not necessary. The heart of the celebration is about honoring the baby’s milestone and sharing the moment with family and friends—not sending guests home with gifts.
That said, you can definitely put together small, simple favors as a token of appreciation, like ginger cookies or plastic red eggs. But if you're short on time or budget, don’t stress! Your guests are there to celebrate your little one, and that’s what truly matters.
